I was told a few days ago that The BTV event scheduled for 25-31 Jul 2011 in Bijing was cancelled, I cna now confirm that the event will not take place this year and it has been rescheduled for the same time next year.
The promoters have said that the event is too close to the Australian Open but a World Snooker sources has said that it may also have to do with BTV’s own TV scheduling problems.
If this event were to go ahead it would of been the last non-sanctioned televised event to take place under the new rules were professional snooker players can not take part in televised invitational events unless they are sanctioned by World Snooker.
So if this event is go ahead next year as BTV have said then it will have to be sanctioned, this would mean that players could not be hand picked by the sponsors and the line up would have to be selected form the official world snooker rankings, players would also not be paid a appearance fee like what they have been paid in the past for this event.
