Injury halts Murphy’s marathon attempt

Hi everyone, it’s with great regret that I have to tell you that I won’t be running in the Sheffield half-marathon on Sunday, May 27 as a result of an injury.

In training, I’ve developed a foot problem that is requiring anti-inflammatories. The injury has meant I’ve not been able to prepare properly.

For my first half-marathon, it was key for me to have clocked up enough miles beforehand to really build up my fitness. Unfortunately, this just hasn’t been possible with the foot injury and, as such, I have no alternative but to pull out of the race.

That said, I will be there on the day supporting fellow snooker player Steve Davis in the race – and, if my foot allows, I am planning to get involved in the Fun Run.

I am aware that some people have been kind enough to sponsor me for the race which I was due to run on behalf of the Paul Hunter Foundation. My hope is that those folk who have already pledged will transfer their support to Steve, who is running for the same brilliant cause. If this is a problem with anyone, please emailchris.lovell@nltg.co.uk (with proof of pledge) at the Paul Hunter Foundation.

I do hope to see some of you at Sheffield on May 27 – and one year, injuries permitting, I definitely intend to be in that race, rain or shine.

Shaun
