Murphy chooses Fans over Press
At the end of a 6-5 victory over Ricky Walden tonight, Shaun Murphy was asked by security to leave the arena because the press were waiting to interview him, at the time Murphy was signing autography for fans who had travelled to the venue just to watch him and Ricky play, for some fans that may well be the first and only time they get to see a live Snooker match, Murphy politely told the security guard “The Press will have to wait” and quite right after all the BBC did not interview him after the match so he had 10 minutes spare where he would of been in the studio before heading towards the press room.
If the papers took more interest in Snooker and printed more stories about the players away from the table where they actually do good like Shaun’s support for charity’s and the work he does promoting the game then maybe he would be more worried about getting to the press to meet their deadlines, the papers are only going to print a 160 work summary that you can get from any Snooker Website minutes after the finishes anyway so its not like it is the final and there will be a front page story in tomorrow’s paper.

Shaun Murphy
Shaun has always said he was a fan before he was a player and he has only done what he would expect as a fan.
Nice one Shaun and lets hope a few more players do the same over the next few days, World Snooker have a board meeting tomorrow and I am sure this will be spoken about so lets hope we see a change coming up.
I do see the importance of getting the players to the studio for the live BBC interview but when they are not interviewing and it is only papers and websites waiting then they can wait a few minutes more while the players pay their respects to the traveling fans.
